Course Descriptions

Electrical 1 Training Course

Course instruction is focused towards applying basic electrical theory and use in testing circuits and components such as sensors and actuators found on vehicles with electronic control systems.

This two-day course provides the technician with the understanding of electrical principles and practices that are utilized while performing a driveability diagnosis.  Ohm’s Law is analyzed as well as the theory of DC current.  Discussion includes the operation of series and parallel circuits.  By using electrical trainers, technicians are provided the opportunity to learn of the features of a multimeter (DVOM) and layout of electrical circuits. Technicians are provided access to vehicles for a practical understanding of the theory analyzed and used to test charging, sensor and actuator circuits.  Instruction on wiring diagrams (schematics) are learned and applied on various trucks on hand.  Technicians will use worksheets to assemble circuits which include relays and circuit breakers.

Course Objective: Given the electrical trainers, multimeter (DVOM), instruction and service information, the technician will test and understand DC electrical behavior in common circuits found on diesel engines today.

Length of course: Two (2) days

Course Fee:  $ 475.00

Service Writing for Diesel Service Course

The design and application of light and medium duty trucks with diesel powertrains is evolving and changing the transportation industry. Service writers are now required to have a minimum level of technical knowledge of diesel engines and related subsystems used in various diesel SUVs and trucks. Electronics have evolved with the use of networks where computer modules are sharing data and performing tasks to operate the transmission, brakes and even the instrument cluster or display of a vehicle.

This one-day course will review the basic technical knowledge needed to understand the common failures and issues with diesel trucks today. Discussion will cover appropriate labor rates and software that is available to calculate labor hours and parts to be charged. Labor rate instruction will offer a view of the overhead costs that a diesel drive-in service facility incurs.

Course Objective: Given the tools needed, such as service repair order software, the service writer will provide a full repair order with customer information, VIN number and other information related to the service and repair of a customer vehicle. The repair order will completely document information related to parts, labor, sublets, notes, and documented communications regarding repair and diagnostic services. Repair order and documentation of customer authorization will be obtained in accordance with local consumer affairs rules and regulations.

Length of course: One (1) day

Course Fee:  $ 250.00

Diesel Courses - Powertrain Training Diesel Course Descriptions

Designed to instruct the technician on the description and operation of the diesel engines found on Ford, GM and Dodge trucks. The diesel engines which are covered in this course are the Dodge Cummins 5.9L CR and 6.7L, the GM Duramax 6.6L, and the Ford Powerstroke 6.0L, 6.4L and 6.7L. Emphasis will be placed on the use of service information, the scan tool, and programming procedures. The use of Select Catalyst Reduction (SCR) on newer trucks brings a need to discuss and instruct on its operation and repair. Emphasis will be placed on instructing the technician to follow a diagnostic strategy.

Course Objective: Given the training, service information and tools, the technician will repair and diagnose Powerstroke, Duramax and Dodge Cummins diesel drivability complaints. Information provided will aid the technician in the ability to follow a diagnostic strategy.

Cummins 5.9L and 6.7L Diagnostic Training

Course Details

The success of the Powerstroke Weekend has brought the need for the Dodge Cummins weekend. This is a weekend course that starts on Friday afternoon and ends on Sunday.

The Dodge Ram equipped with common rail injection on both the 5.9L and the 6.7L have brought issues to technicians. Technical information and procedures are available in this course. The 5.9L with CR (common rail) was introduced in 2003. The use of a high pressure fuel system is diagnosed by “sub-system” to make an accurate assessment on what failed. The low pressure and return system are checked. Service procedures are explained. The Cummins 6.7L is also instructed along with additional emission controls and electronics.
